Special Edition: Extra Credit "Hand Held"

Craft: The documentary was shown in video form. Hand Held revolved around a photographer so a lot of photos were used within the documentary. The photos above were taken in McGuire Hall at the event and also in my room after the event.
Concept: Hand Held showed how one man can make a huge diffrence. The documentary was centered around Michael Carrol and the history of orphanages in Romania.
Composition: The documentary was shown on a huge screen in the back of the stage. It was in a central location so that every viewer was able to view the documentary.

Week 15: Poster Video Final

Craft: Using Premiere was a totally new experience. I got to use a lot of new tools. For my title text I used the rotation tool to do something cool and eyecatching in the beginning. Using the rotation tool made the title jump on the page. I made the video fade out using the opacity tool. I wanted the viewer to focus on the video just for a little while. I played around with the scale of the information text to get the viewer to take notice.
Concept: The video shows a person standing up from a chair and beginning to walk. The video is followed y stamped pictures I used that show a person walking or running. The person is walking to the door/ event.
Composition: I created the video to be 20 seconds long. I wanted the viewer to be able to see the gradual transitions of the person walking up to the door of the event. After all of the information was on the screen for the event, I let it remain for a few seconds so that the viewer could read all of the information.

Week 14: Poster Video Rough

Craft: I used the video that I created with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere. I then exported the video and saved it as mov file.
Concept: The concept was the same for the original poster, which was supposed to represent someone walking to their purpose, which was the event would encourage them to do.
Composition: The composition was basically the same as the image just in video format.

Week 13: Digital Event Poster

This Way To Purpose!

Craft: I used Adobe Photoshop to create this image. I basically used the box tools, circle tool, text tool, paint bucket tool and pre-existing stamps.
Concept:
Composition: I used two colors that really stand out from each other but are still pretty formal. For my title text I wated it to have the appearnce of movement so the text appears to be slanted with race marks on it. It is better able to see on the video. At the bottom I placed the date and time. One the left side I wanted to place someone walking and show the gradual walk up to the door which unlocked purpose.
Concept: This event poster was supposed to encourage someone to walk up to the door of this event and unlock their purpose.

Week 12: My Brushes

Craft: I used Photoshop and used pre-existing paint brushes on 8x5 X 11 document.
Concept: My concept was "Free Love" The images were supposed to look a little hippie-ish/ graffiti and all over the place. They were not meant to look really sutructured.
Composition: Although for each one there was a colorful backround, the center and main point of each was love. So, that's why the heart and the word was placed in the center and the scale was so large. I also used a dark color for the middle images to help them stand out.

Craft: This was byfar the hardest project. First I had to draw on plain piece of printing paper 20 different images that had to do with communication. My images ranged from televisions, to microphones, to envelopes. After drawing those images, I had to scan them onto the computer and save them as images. After saving the images I created brushes out of them and made two twenty layer images. So the tools used were my hands, pens, Photoshop, and the scanner.
Concept: The overall theme for the images was communication. I focused on different ways that humans communcate with each other.
Composition: For each image I tried to use colors that were different from each other but not too different. I didn't want the viewer to focus on the colors but more so the shapes and objects. Like I often do, I placed two big images on the center of the page. This time it was the tv and mouth. I wanted the viewer to first look at the images and then start to notice the background.

Week 11: Drawing vs. Painting

Craft: The first three images were a lot easier to create. All I had to do was go on Adobe Photoshop and play around with different art brushes. I used pre-existing art brushes and changed the colors to create three different looks. The last two images were harder. I had to use the the drawing pad and the pen connected to the computer. I used the pen tool on photoshop and changed the colors to re-create objects that Professor. Peck presented in front of me. With the drawing I had specific instruction to only use the pen to create lines.
Concept: The concept for the first three images were love. The first one was "Splashed Love", the second was "Love Mat" and the one underneath was "Love Birds". I tried to stick with Valentine's types colors of pinks, purples, and reds.  I didn't really have a concept for the drawings. I just drew what was presented before me to draw.
Composition: I tried to do something a little different for each painting. I wanted to give the first one a feeling of overcrowding so that's why there is no white space. The second one was meant to look texturized so there was white space and different layers of the strands. For the third image, I made the two bird the focus and point them right in the front and center.
For the drawings we used a simple green background and drew with blacks, whites and greys. I did many layers of shading to help the images stand out and appear darker.

Week 9 Digital Version Radio

Craft: I created all of the images by using the different shape tools on photo shop. I used squares, lines, circles, and text.

Concept: The main image is supposed to be a radio/jail with an open window and a "bright" 88.3 coming out of the window/escape. 88.3 is looked at as the reward of escaping the locked up radio.

Composition: The firs the viewer should see should either be the bars or the window. They should immediated think of an escape which is why the window is placed in the middle of the screen. Next, the viewer should notice that the image is a radio from the dark speakers on each side and other attributes. Finally the viewer should see the 88.3 coming out of the window. They might even see that first because of the color and placement and the difference of shape. Overall the image was created using a lot of detail and colors to show the complexitiy of the image.

Special Edition Blog

Now for the contemporary side...

Craft: Who even knew this was a piece of art? I sure did not. It was titled as a hat rack. It was hanging from the ceiling and I liked how the shadow bounced off the art.

Composition: I liked how the different images and color mixtures and different shapes abstracted with each other.

This concept was cool to me because of the chimney coming out of the roof. The idea was something that would not have been seen before that time.

Special Edition Blog

The Art Institute Tour started with a welcome from our tour guide Prof. Peck!

Clearly I was excited to see the European Art Before 1900 side of the museum.
A glimpse of the cool staircase and the architecture.
Concept: I liked the idea of this next painting of Jesus and John because this image makes a lot of sense even though that actual scene is not mentioned in the Bible.
Craft: This marble structure caught my eye immediately. The subject was one that that was completely different than the others. The shiny black marble made the African depiction even more memorable and the specific cuts and angles made it look all the more real.

This next image was gorgeous and immediately caught my attention. I thought the composition was interesting because you got closer to the image the colors began to look like a blur. The image was created and structured to be looked at from afar.

Week 7 Escaping from Ordinary Radio

Craft: I created squarish rectangle shapes on a piece of notebook paper with a black pen and drew different image sketches inside of the boxes. I looked at different images(radios, bars, handcuffs) to re-create the images for myself.

Composition: In the first and fourth image I made the radio the main idea by placing it in the center. In the second image I wanted to viewer to focus more on being trapped. In the third image the road was placed in the center the viewer could see the escape route.

Concept: In the first image someone is supposed to be escaping out of a radio. In the second image a person is trapped by earphones that look like handcuffs to symbolize being trapped by music. In the third image a person is is leaving behind wahat is represented as old radio to go to new radio. In the fourth image a person is behind the bars of a radio/jail to show being trapped by a radio and wanting to escape.

Week #6 Collage (Composition Focus)

Consistencies: Fruit as a subject and at least one piece of fruit having a change of hue in each one/
Variable: Type of fruit, color of the hue diffrences, number of fruits in each, postition.

Craft: Cut out images of different fruits (apples, oranges, bananas) copied and compiled into collages.

Compostion: Apple Pic: I made different layers of one apple picture like with week #4. I resized one apple to fit the majority of the background. I changed the hue of the background to make it stand out more. Oranges Pic: I made same size layers of one picture of an orange. I arranged the the oranges so that they took up the entire picture. I changed the hue of two different oranges in the background. Bananas Pic: After cutting out a picture of a banana on a table, I made different same size layers. I changed the hue of a background picture and made it a darker grey. Next, I rotated the picture so the bananas could be vertical.

Concept: I just continued with the theme of collages of fruit with one or two that stand out.

Week #4 Collage

Craft: Cut out pictures of apples copied and altered.

Composition: In Photoshop, I opened up a picture of an apple sitting on the hand of a statue from my previous 2nd blog post. Next, I used the eraser tool to erase all the background and only left the apple remaining. I saved the image of the remaining apple, at the highest quality. Next, I went to the top of the photoshop screen under the layer tab and began to make four different duplicate layers. I used the resizing tool to alter the size of each image without changing its form. I moved the apples around until they covered the entire screen in the style that I wanted. Finally, I saved the image as is and took a screen capture.

Concept: I just wanted to create an apple collage. A viewer might think of the phrase "the apple of my eye". I figured either the one in the middle would be looked at first or the one in the background.

Week #3 Re-Shoot Out of Place

Craft: A pink highlighter that was placed into a toothbrusher holder with toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Composition: I shot the picture looking down but placed the highlighter in the middle so it could be in the center of the viewer's eyes. The surrounding objects help the setting appear to be a bathroom.
Concept: The highlighter in the toothbrush holder was the odd one out. My photo shoot consisted of things out of their normal setting.

Week #2 Apple

Craft: Bought an apple and placed it on the hand of a statue outside during the day.

Composition: I zoomed the camera in so that you could only see the hand of the large statue, in order to focus on the apple. The trees and snow in the background shows that the picture is taken outside.

Concept: A hand presenting an apple can cause a few different ideas to pop into a viewer's mind, maybe the Garden of Eden or a teacher's pet. I just thought the hand laying flat would be a nice place for my food choice.
